Hello Everyone,
My name is Gerald Mabrito but I go by Jerry.
For my first career I was a part of the US Navy construction force know as the Seabees. My particular slice of that pie was electrical power production and distribution all the way down to installing the outlets for your coffee maker. However, I specialized in large scale power production and was able to work 11 years in Italy; four on an island in the Mediterranean, La Maddalena, where I met my wife who is from Milan and spent 7 years in Naples) . We have 3 boys, Arnold(12) a Michigander, Lance(10) a Californian, and JJ(8) a Neapolitan.
While in the Navy I completed an Associates of Art in General Education, a Bachelors or Science in Psychology, and a Masters in Education in School Counseling. I completed my masters 4 months after retiring from the US Navy with 20 years of service.
The following year I worked as a long-term substitute teacher in a Cognitively Impaired (CI) classroom until Spring Break. After Spring Break I choose to take a long-term sub job as a school counselor at another school district, mainly because they had to start looking for a certified teacher for the CI classroom and School Counseling is what I am certified in.
Based on my experiences, I decided that it would be beneficial and rewarding to get my teaching certification prior to finding full-time employment, either as a teacher or a school counselor, so the following year I started to work on fulfilling my Graduate Teacher Certification program teachable major and minor requirements. My goal is a teaching certification in math, computer science, and psychology and I would like to work in a middle school setting.
After serving my country for 20 years, I want to serve my community for 20 more, either as a teacher or a school counselor. I can’t wait to start helping my students the way all of my favorite teachers and school counselor helped me!
My major is math, minors are computer science and psychology and my placement is at Creekside Middle School in Zeeland. My hobbies are running (3 marathons in Prague, 1 in Rome, 1 in Venice, and 1 in Boston), making/building things, home projects DYI, and learning. We have one cat and his name is Frodo but he talks so much I am thinking I should have named him Samwise.
I have used the Promethean smart board as part of lessons in the classroom, I taught a 20 hour class at Mona Shores Middle School on computer programing using Code.org, and I have used Desmos and Geogebra as tools to allow students to explore mathematical principles.
Code.org is an amazing website that provides easy to understand and fun lessons on computer programing for everyone. Check out this photo of a task at Code.org:

I look forward to learning with all of you,
Jerry
